A Look at Upcoming “Making Pesto”
"Being part of a family means doing what you can for your family, even if you've already done enough."
That's what Val's dad says anyway. Val doesn't care much about the excuses her parents give for staying with her Grandma Rosa in Italy but sees that there's no point in arguing against it. As Val adapts to everything: The homemade pasta, the couch she has to sleep on...and the strong relationship between love and hate that holds her Italian family together, Val finds a silver lining: Her grandmother's diary, from when Grandma Rosa had good knees and a sense of humor. Keeping the diary a secret from everyone, her parents, her grandma and anyone else, Val reads about the good and the bad in her grandmother's life at night when no one is in the living room. By day, she makes endless bowls of pesto with Grandma Rosa, forming what seems to be an endless bond.
